Fix a help article in every language

This guide follows one release to a fixed help article in three languages. The example uses Zendesk. The end of the page shows what differs for Notion, GitHub and Intercom.

The example

This is an example, not a customer result. A release raises export history from 30 to 90 days. Your article “Export your data” still says 30, in English, German and French.

Setup: the Zendesk card follows your repo under Help articles follow, and the article is watched. See Connect Zendesk Guide.

1. Amendary reads what shipped

Once a day, Amendary reads the repo’s new releases or commits, as set under What counts as shipped on the Repos tab. With a changelog URL, it reads each new dated entry instead. Only articles of destinations that follow this source are checked.

2. It finds the article and drafts the fix

It checks the English article, the source language, and finds the sentence the release made wrong.

Before: “You can export up to 30 days of history.”

After: “You can export up to 90 days of history.”

The fix links to the change that proves it.

3. It carries the fix into each language

  • Amendary finds the matching sentence in German and French and proposes the same change.
  • Code checks each one: the sentence must be found exactly once, and every number, version and name must be kept.
  • In the Queue each language gets a row. A row that passes says Ready. One that does not says Check it or Not found, and the others still go.

4. You approve it

  1. Open the fix in the Queue. The card names the article and where it lives.
  2. Read the proof and each language row. Select Dismiss this language for any one you do not want.
  3. Select Update in Zendesk. The article and every Ready language are updated. A published language stays published.

5. Undo, if you need to

For 30 days, select Undo on the fix in the Queue. Amendary writes the old sentence back in each language it changed, unless someone edited it since. See Review and undo.

What differs per destination

DestinationApprove buttonLanguages
NotionUpdate in NotionOne page at a time. Translations are not carried.
GitHubOpen pull request or Commit to GitHubEvery linked translation, in one pull request or commit.
ZendeskUpdate in ZendeskEvery language, edited in place.
IntercomUpdate in IntercomEvery language, edited in place.

If no fix appears

Check that the article is watched and that its card follows the right source. A release that made nothing wrong drafts nothing. See Troubleshooting.
